Naghma (نغمه)
Came From Home
Self-released
About Naghma, like many other artists who worked in Afghanistan in the 20th century, information is either missing or various sources contradict each other, sometimes even providing unrealistic information. For example, there is an opinion that Naghma released 2500 cassettes with her songs. Naghma was born in 1964 in Kandahar, and at the age of 16, she moved to Kabul, where she built a career as a singer and became known to the Pashtuns as the voice and face of their folk music. For a long time, she was married to the Pashtun singer Mangal, with whom she recorded many songs. When Afghanistan was engulfed in wars, the couple moved to Pakistan. There, their work was popular among Afghan refugees. In March 2014, Naghma became the first Afghan woman to receive the Pakistani Pride of Performance award for her work. Here is one of Naghma's early works. Thanks to Maywand Kasem for help in translating some bits of information about this album.
