Embryo
Reise
Schneeball · 1979
In the second half of the 70s, Christian Burchard decided to ride the "hippie trail" and invited his band Embryo to join him. Together they travelled through the Middle East, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, improvising with professional and street musicians. The album "Reise" (which means "journey") consists of recordings of these improvisations. Some songs combine traditional music with progressive rock ("Kurdistan") or even punk ("Es Ist, Wie's Ist"), while others are entirely traditional ("Chan Delawar Khan"). The album featured many outstanding musicians. Among them are Afghan rubab virtuoso Muhammad Omar, Afghan sarinda player Machin Abdul Rashid, percussionist T. A. S. Mani and singer Ramamani from Bangalore, percussionist Ramesh Shotam from South India and many others.
