Music of Central Asia, Vol. 3: Homayun Sakhi: The Art of the Afghan Rubâb
Folkways Records · 2006
Homayun Sakhi - a globally recognized master of the Afghan rubab. He was born in 1976 in Kabul into a family of musicians, where, thanks to his father, he learned the art of playing the rubab. In 2002, he moved to Fremont, California, where he still teaches Afghan music at the school he founded. Together with Tarialai Hashimi, a master of playing the tabla drums, Sakhi performs Afghan traditional music on this album, which shares many similarities, on one hand, with Indian ragas, and with Persian melodies on the other.
