From 1990 to 1995, there was a rebellion of various Tuareg groups in Niger and Mali with the aim of achieving autonomy and creating a national state. The rebel movement emerged after the famines of the 1980s and subsequent crisis, as well as due to political repression in both countries. In 1995, Abdallah ag Oumbadugu, a Tuareg revolutionary who supported his comrades in arms with songs on guitar during lulls between shootouts, recorded his debut album in Benin with Nel Oliver, a West African producer known for his work on a number of boogie and afro-funk albums. Due to synthesizers and drum machines, the political ballads sounded like music for trendy discos. This album is one of the earliest works in the Tuareg blues style, making Abdallah one of the pioneers of this genre. In 2019, the album was reissued by the Sahel Sounds label.
