Bab L' Bluz
Nayda!
Real World Records · 2020
Nayda! – debut of the Moroccan-French quartet Bab L 'Bluz, born from the dream to advance sintir, a traditional musical instrument of the gnawa people, onto the international music scene. The group belongs to the wave of young Moroccan artists who draw inspiration from their heritage and perform songs in the darija dialect. This dialect is characterized by a large number of borrowings from the languages of the historical colonizers of the Maghreb, French and Spanish, as well as from local Berber languages. In addition to the influence of gnawa culture, Bab L 'Bluz's music contains elements of psychedelic rock, funk, and Tuareg blues. The recordings feature sounds of the Atlantic Ocean, elements of North African chaabi style, and sounds of the Indian tanpura.
