Saieen Zahoor Ahmed is a Sufi musician from Punjab. He was born near Haveli Lakha and started singing at five. Zahoor says he dreamed of a hand beckoning him to the temple, after which he began roaming Sind's shrines, earning a living by singing. Although Zahoor is illiterate, he knows by heart the works of many Sufi poets, including Bulle Shah, Muhammad Qadiri, Sultan Bahu and others. For most of his life, Zahoor performed in dargahs and on the streets, and his main instrument was the tumbi. As with other Sufi traditions, Zahoor has a passionate singing style, often accompanied by dancing. In 1989, he performed for the first time at the All Pakistan Music Conference, after which he became known throughout Pakistan. Although with the advent of popularity Zahoor's singing was often mixed with pop music, this is well-produced but sustained in a completely traditional style album.
