Yiraw: Nogay Heroic and Lyrical Songs

The album's history began back in 2015 when the music of Alibi Romanov was recorded. Unfortunately, the release was constantly postponed, and in 2021 Alibi tragically died in a car accident, never seeing his album.

An akyn in Turkic tradition is a storyteller, not just a keeper and transmitter of oral poetry and epic texts, but above all a creator of new works and a master of improvisation. This is how Alibi Romanov saw himself, and this is how he was perceived in the press and on stage.

Alibi used the canons of traditional Nogai music as a basis for creating new tunes and melodies, accompanied by verses and tales. Nevertheless, experts believe that he would be more accurately called a "yirav" - a singer.

The album includes several songs, both traditional and composed by Alibi, based on his personal experiences and emotions:

✦ Ävelgide - a heroic song written to the words of the historical poem by Nogai poet Suyna Kapaev "Yoytpadylar sheber-sheshen tillerin".

✦ Men Köremen - based on the song of the medieval Nogai poet Shal-Kiyiz Tilenshi Uly "Men koremem". It sings about the lands of the Nogai Horde at the beginning of the 16th century and how the poet, "climbing the great Elbrus, sees the vast Nogai possessions", and how proud he is at that moment.

✦ Qobızım - an original song by Alibi Romanov, where he sings about how he crafted his kobyz.

✦ Qanıyke - a song about the daughter of the Golden Horde khan Tokhtamysh and the wife of Emir Edige - Kaniyke. She was one of the first women to perform the Hajj in Mecca and became famous in the Islamic world of the 15th century.

✦ Qatar Qaz - a traditional Nogai song celebrating the truly Nogai melody born on the banks of the Irtysh and Volga rivers, historical Nogai places.

✦ Arip Kelip - an original song by Alibi Romanov, in which he sings about his mother, and how at any age, each of us needs maternal care and affection.
