ĦADÃEQ
Zephyrus Records · 2021
In 2010, a group of students from a film school in Brussels started performing jazz-infused traditional Mediterranean songs: from Greek, Italian, and Balkan to Lebanese and Egyptian. The project was led by saxophonist Mathieu Najean, with Lebanese singer Pôl Seif taking the role of vocalist. Releasing their first album Burj Babil in 2012, Mòlo Sâyat played countless concerts across Europe and went on a tour in Canada. In 2015, the group took a break but reunited in Lebanon in 2019. The result was a new album called Hadaeq, featuring elements of Mediterranean music, folk, klezmer, and French chanson. The album includes the sounds of Arabic oud, Middle Eastern percussion, and odd musical time signatures.
