Gordon Koang - a musician blind from birth from the region Upper Nile, South Sudan. In the company of his cousin Paul Biil, Gordon performs a mix of traditional music of the Nuer people and original compositions in English, Arabic, and his native language Nuer. Koang started playing music at an early age and spent a long time performing on the streets before becoming widely known as a poet and a local hero of the Nuer people. He is sometimes even called the "Michael Jackson of South Sudan." In 2013, when a civil war broke out in South Sudan, an armed interethnic conflict between the Nuer and Dinka peoples, Koang emigrated to Australia. Unity is Gordon's eleventh album and his only album recorded after moving to Australia. The recording process mainly took place in the final days of 2019 when Gordon started performing with local musicians, thanks to Music in Exile.
